She Who Inspires Artists (Light On The Wind 1)

Aurelius Magiste has it all. A family fortune, political connections, unsurpassed magical ability. A traumatic childhood. The physical and mental scars it left. A position of power nobody wants him in. Including himself.

Light On The Wind is a novel in seven parts. I started writing it ... a long time ago, with the intention of creating something akin to a historical detective story set in a knowingly subverted fantasy world.

The writing process has been massively on-and-off, as I've lost and regained faith in my writing skills, been distracted by other projects in other areas, and had more than a few upheavals in my life. The aspects of queer existence I wanted threading through the story are not the ones I would focus on now, while the main characters have changed as a I wrote them, and some of those originally intended to sit undeveloped in the background have pushed themselves forwards.

It's still only half complete. I've got the first three parts, plus the short fifth part, and I know what I need to fill in. It's "just" a case of having the drive to do it.

That's why I'm releasing Part 1, in the hope that it will be read, appreciated, and that will be motivation to keep working on it.

As a side note, the first section I wrote was Part 2, which was meant to be Part 1 with an intentionally very in media res start. Turned out it was too much so for my test readers, so I fiddled with the original outline and wrote what is now Part 1 to provide a (slightly) smoother introduction.
