Adds in-game hints obtained by talking to scholars, and other variety to NPC interaction.

This might seem like quite a small change, but it's been quite a lot of work to get it in place. It also addresses, in a way, all the feedback I've received about various points in the the game not being obvious while still leaving things for the player to work out. So hopefully it will make a noticeable difference when getting started.
