Hour 114

Start of day 5. Things not looking great.

Last night I stuck in the UI for quit/resume, although only the quit works. And the ability to start with a known random seed, or generate one. No save/resume. I'm in two minds about how strictly roguelike I want to be on that, as I've an idea that being able to bail out before an imminent permadeath and resuming on your last save point would be an interesting compromise. But after getting that done (and being thankful that I was working in Godot, which at least has a UI toolkit that looks like it belongs in this millennium, rather than Unity which always reminds me of working with X11 widget sets from the 1980s) and reviewing the to-do list, I was feeling even more despondent about completion. And my days of pulling all-nighters are long past.

Not, apparently my days of lying awake at 5am thinking about procgen algorithms.

And with that behind me, I realised it was a symptom of focusing too much on making it playable rather than making it a game. So I start today with a new direction and determination. If not much more confidence.
